The Shawnee Carnegie Library

The Shawnee Carnegie Library was the second library in the state to have a dome . A fire damaged the roof and interior in December of 1927, and the dome structure was lost. Originally built of yellow bricks, the building is now uniformly painted a cream color.

After the fire, renovations and repairs were completed and the library reopened in November 1930.

The ornate detailing around the door remains, as seen in the curved brackets supporting the triangular pediment over the front door.

The Carnegie Library was closed in 1989 and the library moved to a new location. The Carnegie building now serves as office space.
